A Day at Universal Citywalk
Sooo, I had this post planned a while ago, but I totally blanked and forgot to write it! My bad. So, the photos are kinda Christmas-y, but oh well. Universal Citywalk is great any time of year! Here is our obligatory photo in front of the giant Citywalk Christmas tree....Moving on...!!
As some of you know, a few weeks ago my boyfriend took me to the KIIS FM Jingle Ball concert in LA as my Christmas gift. Since we knew it wasn't going to finish until late (almost midnight!) we decided to book a hotel and stay overnight in the city. The next day, we decided to head over to Universal Citywalk! I love being a tourist in my own city, and it was Jacob's first time going. Universal Citywalk is an outdoor mall of sorts, outside Universal Studios. It has shops, restaurants, bars, and a movie theater! And it is FREE! The only thing you have to pay for is parking, which I guess is expected in LA.
We first went over to have lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe, which is probably the most touristy thing we could do, but it was still super cool! I didn't take any photos (FAIL!), but I am sure most of you know what it is! The Hard Rock cafe is known as having the giant guitar on the outside of the building, and the inside is filled with so much old rock and roll memorabilia. I particularly loved all of the Elvis stuff, including that iconic white leather jumpsuit! *cue sexy hip roll* The food at the Hard Rock Cafe was pretty solid. Everything was in the $15-20 range, which I thought was a little expensive for what it was, but what else can you expect from a tourist trap. Still, good food and a one-of-a-kind experience! Thumbs up.
We spent the rest of our time there just walking around all of the shops! There's something for everyone...Lids, Billabong, Lush, a sock store, a magnet store...It is not a TON of shops, but it is enough to spend an hour or so just browsing and walking around. They even had a big Universal Studios store, including Harry Potter, which I thought was fun.
Jake's favorite store was definitely It Sugar since he has the biggest sweet tooth. They have lots of fun novelty things in there, which we had fun laughing about. #BigKids (I don't think he knows I took this picture...sorry Jacob!)
For anyone who likes the movie Neighbors...or is a Zac Efron fan like I am...this Abercrombie and Fitch is where they filmed the very end of the movie! This was the highlight of the day for Jake, since Neighbors is one of his favorite movies...and he is also a big Zac Efron fan.
As a kid, one of my favorite parts of Universal Citywalk was this little water play area. It was a little chilly, so kids weren't playing in the water, but they were certainly mesmerized by it. So was I.
Universal Citywalk has something for everyone! Whether you are from Los Angeles, or just visiting, it is a great place to just come and hang out! Come for shopping or some eats, or even sit back and enjoy a movie. I heard they renovated the theater to have those super comfy reclining seats! Ooooohhhyaaaaaaa!! Now I'm just waiting for them to open their new margarita bar coming soon! ;)
What are your favorite Los Angeles spots you would like to see featured on the blog?
P.S. Universal Citywalk also does a lot of free shows and concerts. In 2009, I got to see Justin Bieber perform for FREE back when he had like 3 dancers. Pardon the embarrassing photo.
