So, I have been on a MAJOR podcast kick lately. I have literally been listening to podcasts non-stop. I don't even think I know what music is anymore. Most recently, a friend told me about the spinoff of the hit podcast Serial, called S-Town, and I finished the entire series in 2 days!! I devoured that shit the same way Chad devours deli meat.
In my opinion, podcasts are a great way to multitask and be productive. For example, I do a lot of driving for work, so listening to an informational podcast makes me feel like I am doing something a little more productive other than just sitting in my car like a fat piece of lard. Or, after a long day, I'll listen to a more light hearted, comedy podcast while I'm cooking dinner as a way for me to escape and relax.
Here I've compiled a list of a few of my faves for you to check out! I tried to include a variety of shows since I literally listen to some of everything. And please share some of your favorite podcasts in the comments below! I would love some more suggestions! Now let's get in to the nitty gritty.
If I Were You
This podcast holds a special place in my heart because it was the very first podcast I started listening to. I didn't even know what a podcast was until my sister recommended this to me, but it's been about 3 years now and I've listened to every single episode since. If I Were You is an advice podcast, but to be clear, this is not just any ol' advice show. It's a comedy advice show hosted by the very funny Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld. You might recognize them from College Humor. You also might recognize Amir from the YouTube "prank wars."
...that still makes me cringe.
Now Jake and Amir's humor might not be for everyone. It may be considered crude at times, but it is all in good fun. They always make sure to roast those who have written in dumb questions or have gotten themselves in crazy predicaments. I also really love all of the inside jokes they have with their listeners! Between playing intro songs sung by their fans to touring the world doing live shows, they have really done a great job at building a little If I Were You community. In fact, my sister and I have stalked them at 2 of their live shows, and I have to say they are some pretty cool Jew dudes.
The Skinny Confidential: Him and Her Podcast
Lauryn Evarts is the queen of all things wellness, beauty, and lifestyle. Her blog, The Skinny Confidential is BEYOND. She is such a girls girl and I love how she shares all of her tried and true tips, tricks, and secrets. Cause don't you hate when people say they don't remember where they got their super cute dress, or that the shirt they're wearing in their photo is "sold out?" Ya, me too. But Lauryn is an open book, which I love, and I've already adopted a few of her tips that are absolute game changers. Face oils? Yep. Acupressure mats? Love it. Face shaving? For. The. Win.
Anyways, Lauryn and her "smart cookie" husband Michael Bosstick started a Him and Her podcast together, which is an extension of the blog, where they discuss a wide variety of topics. Sometimes they have their friends on and it is just straight up funny getting to know them and listen to them make fun of each other. Other times, they have guests on and they talk about more "real" topics, such as relationships or business. But no matter what, it is always a good time! One of the most recent episodes that I loved was when they interviewed Dry Bar creators and founders Allie and Cameron Webb. It was such an interesting and inspiring podcast to listen to, but also so much fun! Lauryn and Michael make a fantastic duo and they each bring something unique to the table. Check out The Skinny Confidential blog and podcast here.
Adderall and Compliments
The host of this podcast, Annabelle, is freaking HILARIOUS. First, she sounds like a cartoon character which is amazing. Second, she is just beyond witty and everything she says is genuine and funny. Third, she likes cats. In fact, she calls her listeners her "kittens." Love it.
It's hard to pin down exactly what this podcast is all about, hence the word "adderall" in the title, but if you are a fan of Bravo TV, The Bachelor, or hate Donald Trump, then this is the podcast for you. I genuinely feel like I am just hanging out with my girlfriends when I listen to this podcast and it is perfect for when I'm cooking dinner after a long day or doing some chores on a Saturday morning. For real, it is the only podcast I listen to that consistently makes me LOL. Check it.
This is Why You're Single
I will start off by saying that this podcast is not just for single people! Laura is married and Angela is in a serious relationship, so they are able to give so much great relationship advice too. But they also know what it is like to be a single gal in her twenties, so they really do have something to offer to all their listeners.
One of the things I like most about this podcast is that no subject is off topic or too extreme to talk about. The girls put everything out on the table. They literally discuss everything from online dating to BDSM to learning how to love yo'self. They are #FeministAF and I really believe they are fantastic role models for the modern woman. I think we could all use a little Laura and Angela in our lives, so check them out here.
